The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them.” - Brian Eno The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. It’s the sound of failure: so much modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. “Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. I’ve told a lot of people who’ve asked that it’s not worth the time or money, however considering that I’ve had it for three years and I’m still finding new ways to use it - I’d say it’s a winner in a way, at least when I’m looking for undefinable sounds. I can’t even say it’s that hard to incorporate into live shows, or to apply in a studio setting, as I’ve successfully used the SE+ in both.īasically, I’ve had it for quite a while and the main thing is that I haven’t managed to use all of the parameters yet, and I keep discovering new ones - Desperate to use CV expression on this pedal, but I don’t have a CV generator - when that day comes I’ll have another function to delve into. However, that trial seems to be the point - I’ve had days where I’ve hated this pedal, but there’s not a lot like it on the market (apart from the Gamechanger Audio Plus) However, in terms of the characteristics and quality of the sounds (and considering the price tag) it can be a bit of trial to use. If the Superego plus was a school project given to engineers at EHX, I’d give them an A for the effort/creativity. I’ve noticed similar qualities, it’s a shame, but you’re guitar is not a synth, it’s a guitar. I’ve been using the Superego+ for about 3 years now.
